Organic Silicon Coatings Have Good Radiation Resistance

Organic silicon coatings have good radiation resistance and are therefore commonly used in the nuclear industry. Its radiation resistance varies with the substituents on silicon atoms, such as organosilicon containing phenyl groups having greater radiation resistance than organosilicon containing methyl and ethyl groups. Organosilicons containing methyl groups are generally resistant to 107 to 10 rad, while those containing phenyl groups are resistant to 109 rad.
